Allegra Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Fexofenadine hydrochloride

FEXOFENADINE (Allegra®) is an antihistamine. It work against the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. It also reduces allergy symptoms of hay fever, and may reduce itching of the skin in those people who have chronic itchy skin rashes. Histamine is a chemical that is responsible for many of sign and symptoms of allergic reactions such as includes swelling of the lining of the nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes. It is released from histamine-storing cells and then attached to the other cells that have receptors for histamine.

Allegra Dosage

• Usual dosage for allergra is 1 capsule (60 milligrams) twice a day. If you have kidney problems, then you should take only 1 dose a day.
• If you have hay fever, then usual dosage is 60 milligrams twice a day or 180 milligrams once a day.
• For hives, you should take 60 milligrams dosage twice a day.
• If your children has hay fever or hives, then usual dosage is 30 milligrams twice a day. If your children has kidney problems, then the recommended dosage 30-milligram each day.

Uses of Allegra

• It is used to prevent sneezing, runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, and also other allergic symptoms.
• It is also used for hives.

Side Effects of Allegra

If you are taking allegra, then discuss the side effects of allegra with your doctor. If you feel any develop or change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Because only your doctor can determine that it is safe for you or not. Side effects of Allegra may include:

• Colds or flu
• coughing
• drowsiness
• fatigue
• fever
• headache
• indigestion
• menstrual problems
• nausea
• pain including back or ear pain

Warnings and precautions before taking Allegra:

• If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, increased pressure in the eyes, prostate problems, or hyperthyroidism, then you should use allegra-D with caution. Stop using it and check with your doctor if it causes nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness.
• Before taking fexofenadine, discusss with your doctor if you have any allergies.
• If you have any medical problems such as includes kidney disease, heart problems (QT prolongation), then tell your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.
• if you are having any surgery such as includes dental surgery, then tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking fexofenadine.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with allegra, then it may increased, decreased or altered the effects of medicine. So check with your doctor before combining Allegra with erythromycin (E.E.S., Ery-Tab, PCE) or ketoconazole (Nizoral). Also check with your doctor before combining it with the following:

• Mecamylamine (Inversine)
• Methyldopa (Aldomet)
• Reserpine (Diupress, Hydropres)

Overdose

If you are taking allegra and after taken you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may be cause to other serious effects. Symptoms of Allegra overdose may include:

• Dizziness
• drowsiness
• dry mouth
