Guanfacine Hydrochloride Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Guanfacine Hydrochloride

Guanfacine medication helps to control high blood pressure. This medication reduces nerve impulses to the heart and arteries and it also helps to slows the heartbeat, relaxes the blood vessels, and thus reduces blood pressure. You can used this Guanfacine medication alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications, especially thiazide diuretics, such as includes Diuril, Esidrix, or Naturetin. Guanfacine may also improve attention, impulse control, and irritability.

Guanfacine Hydrochloride Dosage

  • The usual dose of guanfacine is 1 milligram daily, You should be taken this medication at bedtime.
  • Your doctor may increase the daily dosage to 2 milligrams if necessary, after 3 to 4 weeks.

Uses of Guanfacine Hydrochloride

  • It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
  • It is also be helpful in reducing ADHD symptoms.

Side Effects of Guanfacine Hydrochloride

  • Phenothiazines such as Mellaril, Stelazine, Thorazine, and others
  • Barbiturates such as Amytal, Seconal, Tuinal, and others
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • Benzodiazepines such as Tranxene, Valium, Xanax, and others
Overdose

After taking Guanfacine Hydrochloride, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Guanfacine Hydrochloride overdose may include:

  • Drowsiness
  • lethargy
  • slowed heartbeat
  • very low blood pressure
