Helidac Therapy Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Bismuth subsalicylate, Metronidazole, Tetracycline hydrochloride

Bismuth subsalicylate is a antibiotic medicine . Metronidazole and tetracycline are also antibiotics. They fight bacteria in your body. Helidac is a combination of drug that are used to cures infection, because it is responsible for most stomach ulcers. Although ulcers used to be blamed on stress and spicy food, doctors now know that a germ is known as Helicobacter pylori is the actual culprit in a majority of cases. Like bismuth, Tetracycline hydrochloride is also used to treats a stomach infection (H pylori) that may causes ulcers.

Helidac Dosage

You should be taken 4 Helidac pills 4 times daily, with each meal and at bedtime.

Uses of Helidac

  • All drugs such as includes bismuth subsalicylate, metronidazole, and tetracycline are used to treat Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infection that are involved in causing stomach ulcers.
  • Bismuth subsalicylate, metronidazole, and tetracycline may also be used for other conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Helidac Therapy

If you are using Helidac Therapy, then discuss the side effects of Helidac Therapy with your doctor and if you feel any develop or change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Side effects of Helidac Therapy may include:

  • Abnormal stools
  • weakness
  • abnormal taste
  • vomiting
  • appetite loss
  • upper respiratory infection
  • black bowel movements
  • sinus inflammation
  • bleeding in stomach or intestines
  • rectal discomfort
  • constipation
  • headache
  • discolored tongue
  • pain
  • dizziness
  • duodenal ulcers
  • indigestion

Warnings and precautions before taking Helidac :

  • If you develop or feel headache and blurred vision, numbness and tingling in the arms and legs, or seizures, then stop taking Helidac and call your doctor immediately.
  • If you are taking Helidac Therapy, then after taking you may feel dizzy, drowsy or less alert. So do not perform any activities where you requiring more alertness such as driving or operating dangerous machinery or participating in any hazardous activity. It may cause serious effects. So use it with caution.
  • If you have liver or heart disease, a nerve disease such as includes epilepsy, or a blood disorder, then check with your doctor before taking metronidazole.
  • This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. So use a sunscreen when you are outdoors and you should be avoided sunlamps and tanning beds.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Helidac Therapy, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Helidac Therapy. It may also cause another serious effects. So discuss with your doctor before combining Helidac Therapy with the following:

  • Antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium
  • Blood-thinning drugs such as warfarin (Coumadin)
  • Sulfinpyrazone (Anturane)
  • Cimetidine (Tagamet)
  • Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • Phenobarbital
  • Diabetes medications such as insulin and glyburide (Micronase)
  • Probenecid (Benemid)
  • Iron (including vitamins that contain iron)
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • Lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
  • Penicillin
Overdose

After taking Helidac Therapy, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Helidac Therapy overdose may include:

  • Confusion
  • vomiting
  • coma
  • severe heart and lung problems
  • convulsions
  • ringing in the ears
  • lethargy
  • coordination problems
  • rapid breathing
  • numbness or pain in the arms and legs
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • fast heartbeat
  • high fever
