Oxistat Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Oxiconazole nitrate

OXICONAZOLE (Oxistat®) is an antifungal medication type of antibiotic. It treats fungal infections of the skin such as including candida, ringworm, or tinea infections such as including jock itch or athlete's foot. This medication may also be used to treat skin conditions known as tinea versicolor or pityriasis versicolor. Oxiconazole medication prevents fungus from growing on your skin. Oxistat is used to treat fungal skin diseases commonly known as ringworm (tinea). It is available as a cream or lotion.

Oxistat Dosage

  • For athlete's foot, jock itch, or ringworm of the body, You should use Oxistat cream or lotion once or twice a day. In which, Athlete's foot is treated for 1 month and Jock itch, ringworm of the body are treated for 2 weeks.
  • For tinea versicolor, you should be applied Oxistat cream once a day for 2 weeks.

Uses of Oxistat

  • It is used to treat skin infections such as including athlete's foot, jock itch and ring worm.
  • It is also used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis, a fungal infection that may causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs.
  • It is also used to treat other medications those listed in the medication guide.

Side Effects of Oxistat

If you are taking Oxistat, then discuss the side effects of Oxistat with your doctor and if you feel any change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Side effects of Oxistat may include:

  • tingling
  • burning
  • stinging
  • skin softening
  • irritation
  • skin redness
  • pain
  • rash
  • scaling
  • itching
  • raised skin eruptions similar to those of chickenpox
  • eczema
  • cracks in the skin
  • Allergic skin inflammation

Warnings and precautions before taking Oxistat:

  • If you have any medical conditions such as including other illnesses, infections, allergies, then you should tell your doctor.
  • Before using this medication, you should also tell medical history to your doctor especially of diabetes.
  • You should be avoided wearing underwear that have tight-fitting or made from synthetic materials such as includes rayon or nylon. Instead, you can wear loose-fitting, cotton underwear.
  • You should use a bland, absorbent powder or an antifungal powder on the skin. It is best to use the powder between the times you use oxiconazole.

Drug Interaction:- There are no known interactions between oxiconazole lotion and other drugs. But do not start taking other drugs without talking with your doctor. Because it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Oxistat. Drug interactions may result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job.

Overdose

An overdose of oxiconazole topical is unlikely to occur. But after using Oxistat, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately.
