Relafen Medication (Nabumetone) - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Nabumetone

Nabumetone (Relafen®) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It helps to reduce the pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.Nabumetone is a drug effective in treating fever, pain, and inflammation in the body. Relafen works by reducing hormones that may cause swelling and pain in the body.

Relafen Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 1000 milligrams taken as a single dose.
  • Your doctor increase dosage up to 2000 milligrams per day, taken once or twice a day.

Uses of Relafen

  • Nabumetone medicine is used to reduce the pain, inflammation, and stiffness that may caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • It is also used for other conditions those listed in the medication guide.

Side Effects of Relafen

If you are using Relafen, then discuss the side effects of Relafen with your doctor and if you feel any change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Side effects of Relafen may include:

  • inflammation of the stomach
  • Dry mouth
  • vomiting
  • fatigue
  • sleepiness
  • inability to fall or stay asleep
  • nervousness
  • increased sweating
  • inflammation of the mouth

Warnings and precautions before taking Relafen:

  • If you have kidney or liver disease, then tell your doctor and you should be used Relafen with caution.
  • You should be used this medicine with caution if you have congestive heart failure or high blood pressure. Because drug can cause fluid retention and swelling.
  • If you are allergic to nabumetone, aspirin or other NSAIDs such as includes ibuprofen and naproxen, or any other medications, then tell your doctor and pharmacist.
  • If you are having surgery such as includes dental surgery, then tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking nabumetone.
  • If you are taking Relafen drug, then after taking you may feel dizzy or drowsy. So do not perform any activities where you requiring more alertness such as driving or using machinery.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Relafen, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Relafen. It may also cause another serious effects. So discuss with your doctor before combining Relafen with the following:

  • Diuretics such as HydroDIURIL and Lasix
  • Lithium (Eskalith)
  • Methotrexate
Overdose

After taking Relafen, if you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of a Relafen overdose may include:

  • drowsiness
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • stomach pain
  • decreased urination
  • shallow breathing.
