Urised Medication (Methenamine) - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Methenamine

Urised is an antispasmodic, urinary anti-infective, and analgesic combination used to treat the discomfort of certain types of urinary tract infections or diagnostic procedures. It is used to treat urinary tract infections such as including cystitis (inflammation of the bladder and ureters), urethritis (inflammation of the urethra), and trigonitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bladder).

Urised Dosage

  • The usual dose is 2 tablets, 4 times a day.
  • The dosage for children 6 years and older must be determined by your doctor.

Uses of Urised

  • It is used to treat urinary tract infections and also helps to treat pain, burning, urinary urgency and frequency and other associated symptoms.
  • It is also used to treat other conditions those listed in the medication guide.

Side Effects of Urised

If you are using Urised, then discuss the side effects of Urised with your doctor and if you feel any change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Urised. Side effects of Urised may include:

  • Acute urinary retention
  • blurry vision
  • difficulty urinating
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • flushing
  • rapid pulse
  • skin rash

Warnings and precautions before taking Urised:

  • If you have kidney problems, liver disease, stomach or intestinal disorders, glaucoma, allergies, then you should tell your doctor.
  • If you are taking Urised medicine, then it may cause drowsiness or blurred vision. So do not perform any activities that require full alertness such as driving or operate machinery.
  • Urised should be used cautiously if you have heart disease or have ever had a reaction to medications that are chemically similar to atropine.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Urised, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Urised. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Urised with the following:

  • Acetazolamide (Diamox)
  • Potassium supplements such as Slow-K
  • Sodium bicarbonate antacids such as Alka-Seltzer
  • Sulfa drugs such as Gantrisin, Gantanol, Bactrim, and Septra
Overdose

After taking Urised, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Urised overdose may includes:

  • bladder and abdominal irritation
  • bloody urine
  • circulatory collapse
  • dilated pupils
  • dizziness
  • dry nose
  • mouth
  • elevated blood pressure
  • extremely high body temperature
  • hot
  • flushed skin
