Natural Home Remedies For Jaundice

Jaundice refers to the yellow color of the skin and whites of the eyes, it may occur due to excess bilirubin in the blood. The color of the skin and sclerae depending on the bilirubin. When the bilirubin level is mildly elevated, they are yellowish. When the level of bilirubin is high, then they tend to be brown. Bilirubin is produced by the breakdown of red blood cells. Jaundice means the yellow appearance of the skin and whites of the eyes that occur when the blood contains an excess of the pigment is known as bilirubin. This excess of bilirubin may causes the skin, eyes, and the mucus membranes to turn a yellowish color. This yellowish color is due to the bilirubin dissolving in the fat layer just below the skin. For adults the symptoms of jaundice usually indicate damage to the liver. Jaundice is caused by the breakdown of red blood cells. As the old cells are broken down, hemoglobin is changed into bilirubin and removed by the liver. The build-up of bilirubin in the blood is known as hyperbilirubinemia. Jaundice has three types: Hemolytic jaundice, Hepatocellular jaundice and Obstructive jaundice.

Causes of Jaundice

  • If you are taking certain drugs, medications, substances or toxins such as including Mercury Certain antibiotics, Erythromycin, Sufa, Certain antidepressants, that may also causes of Jaundice as a symptom.
  • Jaundice also caused due to viruses, drugs, alcohol abuse, etc. The types of jaundice include haemolytic jaundice which is due to the breakdown of RBC and Cholestatic jaundice due to biliary tract obstruction.
  • If you have alcoholic liver disease, then it may also occur.

Home Remedies for Jaundice

  • For the jaundice treatment, you should be taken 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder mixed in a glass of hot water 2-3 times a day.
  • Lots of lime juice should be consumed.
  • You should also drink 1 glass of fresh Tomato juice in the morning. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to this.
  • You should drink barley water several times during the day, because it is another good remedy for this disease.
  • Soak gram daal in water. Then remove the water and mix jaggery in equal quantity with the daal and eat it for three days. If you feel thirsty, you should drink the water in which the daal was soaked.
  • You can also take 60 mI. of fresh amla juice, mixed with 23 gms. of honey, it provides relief from jaundice.
  • You can also take 10 grams (one-tablespoon) raisins and 10 grams (one tablespoon) fresh ginger. Crush and put in 200-ml. water for one hour. Boil this decoction till the water reduces to 50 ml. Strain and drink while warm. You should taken this preparation twice a day.
  • Make a paste of tender papaya leaves. Take 1/2 tsp of this paste with 1 tsp honey.
